The night before Odysseus and his men sail from Troy, Apollo enters Odysseus’ dreams. Apollo attempts to warn Odysseus from his troubles to come...
“Oh! Odysseus! Why do you choose to sail from Troy when I have been warning you from the bad fortunes to come? Not even I, Apollo can imagine such a route to take. Still attempting to go on your expedition when you know you are soon to lose your loved ones and crew members? Wake up man! Do not think I am just a mere conscience within you, I’m the real deal! Yes, I am Apollo, god of prophecies and oracles and much more.”
Several nights later.... Odysseus and his crew had just got away from Polyphemus. Apollo disrupts Odysseus’ dreams once again....
“Well, great thinking back there, buddy. I warned you not to state your name to any type of being. I must say you were quite stealth when Polyphemus had asked you your name and you responded, ‘Nohbdy’. I’ll admit that granted me a laugh or two. Though, you had to ruin it! You and your men could have gotten away with blinding the Polyphemus, but, no! you had to get cocky and scream your name while sailing away! The moment you thought you were untouchable, was when you were most vulnerable. You, and your big head, I swear we have to shrink that down to size. Now Posiedon, god of sea granted the Cyclops’ prayer to curse you and your crew ten years on the sea and hardships along with it. Just as I had warned you! Besides that, do you not see the pattern laying out before you? You are losing more and more men with everything you do. No matter which path you take Odysseus, you may be the last one of your men standing....
Odysseus is now sleeping on the land they had just found. And while Odysseus is sleeping his men are being tempted to eat Helios’ kine...
“Odysseus! Now that you have been told, your prophecies for this journey from the prince of Thebes you now believe what I have been warning you about all along? Not that being I, Apollo god OF PROPHECIES and ORACLES would give you a clue! But no worries, I forgive you this time. When you visited the Land of the Dead, I must tell you these are not predictions you were told. Do you recall the one prophecy? ‘you’ll find the grazing herds of Helios’ by whom all things are seen, all speech is known. Avoid those kine.’ Well, while you’re lying here snoozing away, your men are currently being tempted to eat those cattle! Now hurry Odysseus! HURRY!"
